The New Year is here and it is time to start thinking about those New Year’s Resolutions! Maybe your resolution is to lose weight or take up a new hobby. Maybe you are thinking about becoming more organized or improve your golf game. Or, maybe your resolution is to finally make the call to get help for your child who has been struggling with speech and/or language in some way. No matter what your resolution is, there is no time like 2014!
There are many resources out there for children who are struggling with speech/language skills or development. If your child is younger (ages birth-3), then Early Intervention may be the place for you to call. Early Intervention is a statewide service offered to families with children in the birth to 3 populations who may have developmental disabilities. For more information about Early Intervention, visit:
Once your child is of school age (over 3), the local public school may be a good resource for you to contact. The school district will be able offer you an evaluation of your child in the area of concern and can offer services for your child, if warranted. Contact the special education department of your public school district to inquire about services.
In addition to these great public options for speech/language services, there is always the option for private, clinic-based speech therapy. At Golden Speech Therapy our population consists of a variety of clients. Some children previously received services through the public school or Early Intervention, but no longer qualify due to stricter qualification standards. Some children continue to receive services through the public school or Early Intervention but they are interested in receiving supplemental services as well. Whatever your child’s situation, it is always nice to know the option of private therapy exists, and Golden Speech Therapy is happy to be here to meet those needs.
