An Easy Holiday DIY with 5 Dollar Tree Items
If I am going to tackle a DIY project, I need it to be simple and inexpensive. I recently wanted to make a holiday decoration, and a quick stop at the Dollar Tree made my simple, frugal DIY possible!
At the Dollar Tree I bought: a reindeer ornament, a picture display, thin ribbon, a package of bows, and a bag of pom poms. The only other item I needed was a glue gun which I already had on hand.
Then I glued the reindeer, and bow making sure to cover the writing at the bottom. I ended by attaching some of the ribbon and pom poms to cover the rip that came when removing the clip. It was as simple as that!
The Dollar Tree has a wide variety of ornaments, bows, ribbons, flowers, and more. It just takes a little time and creativity to make a festive holiday DIY.
Holiday decor doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated, so consider a quick stop at your local Dollar Tree and see what creative DIY you can make this December!

My Favorite Gingerbread Recipe
This gingerbread recipe has been modified from a Joy of Cooking recipe. It is my favorite because it is vegan and doesn’t require any refrigeration!
Almond Butter Kisses Cookie Recipe
Christmas cookie baking day is one of my favorite parts of the holidays. I love the smell of cookies baking all day long with holiday music playing and the entire family and our friends working together to make some tasty treats!
Peanut butter kisses were always one of my favorites to make with my parents and grandparents growing up along with my grandmother's M&M Christmas cookies. After my son was born we found out he was severely allergic to peanuts which came as a total shock. I have been a major peanut butter love my whole life and I had to remove it completely from our home. Lucky for us he is not allergic to tree nuts so we are able to substitute almond butter and other choices. A few years ago I took the recipe for Peanut Butter Kisses and substituted almond butter and them came out amazing. My son who refuses all kinds of "butter" substitutes enjoys these cookies and I catch him trying to sneak them all the time just like I did as a child! Plus they are pretty darn close to the original peanut butter ones, to the point that I have actually grown to enjoy this option more. Feel free to substitute any other type of "butter" option that will work for your family. These make perfect gifts for teachers, friends and family and they were featured on a Cape Kids Cast where Ethan touts them as a great peanut free option.
Check out this week's Cape Kids Cast brought to you exclusively from Cape Cod Moms. This week they share their holiday cookie special as well as highlight some upcoming events. Here are the links to the cookie recipes: Almond Butter Kisses & Christmas M&M cookies!
Stay tuned in December for our gifts for parents, and possibly an interview with the jolliest elf around: Santa Claus!

This lovely production is an excellent way to kick off your holiday season and is perfect for all ages. The Sea Captain’s Nutcracker, set to the original Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker score, opens in a Chatham Sea Captain’s home in the mid-1800’s. Local authors Donna Smith & Anne LeClaire’s script transports the audience on an enchanting journey through local history and folklore invoking elements of the natural environs of Cape Cod. The heroic battle scene takes place aboard a sailing ship as it is attacked by mooncussers off the coast of Eastham; a swift and violent storm off Monomoy Point then threatens the voyage. The salty old Sea Captain, who replaces the traditional Drosselmeyer character, returns home to Chatham bearing exotic gifts from his voyages for Clara. Audiences will be charmed by the Waltz of the Sea Grass and will be thrilled by the Dance of the Icy Winds.
You need not go to Boston or New York City to see a high quality Nutcracker! The Sea Captain’s Nutcracker, not only includes 125 local dance students and actors but features professional guest dancers from Omaha and Chicago. Kristen Evans and Alex Luntz from the Festival Ballet Providence star as the Beach Castle Princess and her Cavalier. The enchanting choreography is a collaboration by professional and world renowned dancers including Laura Sciortino, Catherine Batcheller and Joseph Cipolla. This year’s production features exciting additional choreography by Yves de Bouteiller, recently relocated from Paris and now on faculty at Turning Pointe Dance Studio. Mr.de Bouteiller along with Falmouth local, Brett Baird, play the role of the salty old Sea Captain.
The Sea Captain's original set and costume designs are by London stage designer Jean Marc Puissant but watch for elegant and imaginative new costumes and sets added this year. A special newcomer to the cast is Sandwich school teacher Cathy Lemay who opens the production as the adult Clara reminiscing to John Lennon's So This is Christmas. Tickets sell quickly so reserve your seats today!
For tickets to this production visit the studio's website at www.turningpointedancestudio.org or call (508) 444-0278.
Adults: $26; children and seniors: $16. Group discounts are available.
