Fleeting Moments Photography
1. Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
Fleeting Moments Photography is a local business that believes in supporting the community in any way it can. Frequently we will volunteer our time to a cause or give away gift certificates for silent auctions to help in raising money.
2. Where is it located?
Fleeting Moments Photography is located in South Dennis but we travel the Cape within a 20 mile radius of Dennis
3. What is your favorite part about our community?
Cape Cod is a very relaxed and chill community. The people we have encountered truly are great people.
4. How else do you get involved with the community?
I will partner with other businesses in the community which in turn helps us both. I help out where ever I can with my kids extracurricular activities and schools.
5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community?
I think the biggest challenges facing parents is technology - where our kids are concerned. It's difficult to constantly monitor what they are doing as technology is ever changing. I have a 10 year old and a 13 year old and I am constantly on them to make sure they are safe.
6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business?
Over the past seven years I have met so many great families and captured their memories. I love seeing families grow year after year. So many of my clients have become good friends.
7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community?
Follow your instincts - always. Your gut feelings will lead you in the right direction. Once I had my son, i knew that I did not want to keep working full time in an office. It took me three years and I was able to quit working to raise our kids. Thankfully, I did. A few short years later my son was diagnosed with Autism and I am so happy that I followed my heart and was able to be home for him during the rough years. It just didn't seem natural for me to be at work while someone else was taking care of him. I know that if I did not make that decision years ago, he would be a much different person.
8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know?
I am starting to book family photo sessions now and if you book before March 31st, you get an additional free 8x10 print with your session. Family Photo Sessions cost $195 and include an 8x10 photo (good for up to six people). The summer months fill up quickly.
Verizon GoPro Hero 5 Session Ensures Long Lasting Memories
A few months ago, our family had the opportunity to check out Verizon GoPro Hero 5 Session in time for Back to School. We had some amazing adventures and fun with the camera and you can read our review here. More recently we had a chance again to take a GoPro Hero 5 Session with us on a parent only vacation in exchange for sharing what we thought about it. It was an amazing opportunity to record memories from vacation to share later with friends and family!
This time we were supposed to check out the GoPro Hero 5 Black, which has a screen in order to be able to see what you are recording versus the Session. Unfortunately there was a little confusion during the shipping process and we were sent the Session again. Verizon had the Black sent overnight to us and it arrived the night before we left however the camera was missing one of the waterproof plugs for the cord connection to the computer so we could not use it in the water. Verizon did everything they could to ensure our positive experience with the camera. But as we know as parents, sometimes things just happen and we roll with it!
Having used the Session before I knew how to secure it and use it, making me a pro this time. It’s so easy with one button operation and voice control and perfect for snorkeling adventures which is our favorite thing to do on vacation. Our most recent vacation we finally took our honeymoon sans children thanks to the grandparents! We traveled down to the beautiful country of Grenada, which is the furthest south we have ever been. One of the reasons we picked Grenada was due to the country’s beauty and underwater snorkeling. There is an underwater sculpture park which is a concept that combines art and coral protection with 68 different attractions dispersed along the shallow waters off Moliniere Point. It’s a great place to go snorkeling. It was created by the British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. The aim of the project was to build an artificial barrier where the coral and other marine life could migrate to and find a new home in an area that was highly devastated by the Hurricane Ivan in 2004. This has helped ocean life return to the area as well as helped stimulate the economy for the region. Due to the very active hurricane season, our trip kept getting pushed back all week and almost didn't happen due to water visibility issues. Lucky for us by the day before we left, they took us out and off we went with our GoPro in hand!
This excursion was the perfect way to get full use of the Session. The camera takes 4K video and 10 MP photos. It has the ability (again only 1 button!) to take single photos or a burst of photos depending on your setting. The session really does a lot despite being tiny in size it even has the ability to stabilize your videos. The pilot your own boat trip out to the snorkeling was so much fun! I love zipping across the water with the wind in my hair! I easily secured the GoPro to the front of our boat and recorded the sights as we traveled. When we arrived the underwater park took my breath away, it truly is amazing. Each set of sculptures has a story behind it representing the local culture and we learned so much about the Grenadians. I set the GoPro on record and just took video the whole time knowing I could edit upon our return home and the results were spectacular as you can see from the photos and video.
We were also given a rare chance to see a baby turtle release which as you can see from my video below I was able to catch up close with the GoPro. This was pretty amazing to see close up and the GoPro was super easy to get set up near them as they raced to the ocean! There were lots of other people with a GoPro at the resort however 99% of them had special cases for their cameras. Many of them were fascinated with the fact that the Verizon GoPro Hero 5 Session did not need one as it is waterproof up 33 feet!
Overall I think the Verizon GoPro Hero 5 Session is a great camera and perfect for families especially with the holidays quickly approaching. It is small, easy to use and gets fantastic video. My only negative was that I couldn’t see any of the pictures or videos on the camera that I was taking until we arrived home. As a result there were a few photos that I wish I could have retaken and would have had I known. There is an app to use with it however being a frugal mom I did not purchase an international plan before the trip so the app would not work for me out of the country. The session does have the ability to automatically upload your content directly to the cloud for viewing, editing and sharing or can make videos quickly via the app. Personally for me I like being able to quickly see what photos I am taking as I do them, but for convenience and all the features this camera really is great and an affordable option for families. I am so glad we had this opportunity from Verizon to capture these memories of a beautiful place and our first vacation without the kids!
The GoPro Hero from Verizon is Perfect for Our Family
The back to school countdown is on and boy has it been quite the summer. The time has flown by and already we are back to school shopping! Our family was able to experience a lot of fun and experiences this summer that have helped to make lasting childhood memories. Since summer always passes so quickly I was thrilled when Verizon reached out to me with an opportunity to check out the GoPro Hero 4 Session camera and see if it fit it could help us capture some family fun in exchange for an honest review!
When I was a kid I can remember our parents recording events and experiences. In today’s society we all have cell phones, which mean the majority of our pictures and videos are now done on these devices. However I have found that my video quality on my cell phone does not always translate well to a larger screen and my family camera is large and can be cumbersome to always have with us. This is why a GoPro is a great middle ground solution.
When the GoPro Hero 4 Session arrived, we were eager to check it out. The camera is a cube-shaped waterproof camera that is half the size of and 40% lighter than the other Hero4 cameras and only requires one button use. This can be a little confusing at first. The directions that came with the camera while simple did not fully explain the amazing capabilities the camera actually has however moms have a great ability to quickly cut to the heart of the matter and I was able to get the basics figured out. Luckily for me towards the end of our demo, I was also able to chat with David from Verizon who emailed me the online manual and helped me figure out how to try out some other features, some of which I can’t wait to try out on our upcoming trip.
We took the light weight and durable GoPro a few places to experiment on Cape Cod including the hiking, our neighborhood, and even the beach. Did I mention this camera is waterproof up to 33 feet without an additional enclosure? This makes the camera so much more useful. We brought it to the beach with us one day and I loved being able to just set it up and then hang out with the kids while they explored. This way I was able to relax and actually spend time with them while also capturing the smiles and laughter that comes from exploring new things and just having fun with family.
Just in time for back to school, we reached a major milestone as the Tiny One has learned to ride a two wheeler. He decided it was time to take the training wheels off, he hopped on and off he went. This was a great opportunity to check out the GoPro video capabilities. It was easily affixed to the top of his bike helmet and gave us an amazing view of the world as seen through the eyes of a child. When I viewed the video, I couldn’t help but laugh as he narrated his fast cruise around our neighborhood. I was also overwhelmed by how it made me feel knowing I had captured a snippet of such an important milestone in life.
Since we had affixed it already to our bike helmet we decided to go on a local nature hike with it. This was quite entertaining as the Tiny One was narrating his every move plus we were able to capture fun treasures we found along our way. This will also be a perfect way to capture that first day back at school as we swing from our favorite tree while waiting for our bus. The GoPro Hero 4 Session also comes with an app for your phone so you can edit, share and even more right from your phone! Some other great apps: Some great Family and/or Back To School apps to check out are Family Locator, Brainscape, Todoist, and Google Goals. Plus Verizon also has a Back to School deals page where you can save some money!
As a parent, video mode is my absolute favorite aspect to the GoPro. I love the ease in which I can easily place or affix the Session on and just stand back and let it record moments. The waterproof GoPro’s are super versatile and fit in seamlessly with a busy family lifestyle. I am grateful that there is new technology today that helps us get out from behind the camera and experience life with our families while still capturing all those moments that I will forever look back on and treasure. I am also super thankful to Verizon for allowing me to try out one of these cameras; it has been an amazing opportunity. Verizon has also graciously allowed me to check out the camera again when I travel next month and have an opportunity to snorkel one of the top beaches in the world: Grand Anse Beach. (Update: Check out our review from Grenada here!) This year, a GoPro is definitely at the top of this mommy’s Christmas Wish List!
I was recently the lucky recipient of a free photo session with Lydia Leclair Photography from Cape Cod Mommies. When I heard the news I was very excited! I've been wanting to do a photo shoot with my husband and my twin boys for a while now but haven't had the extra cash, so this was such a great prize!
After confirming the date, place and time (twice, due to weather!!) we were able to coordinate schedules. We met at long pasture wildlife sanctuary in Barnstable.. Where my husband & I got married, where our boys were blessed surrounded by friends and family and a place we have had many picnics! It's our spot :)
When meeting Lydia I could tell we were going to get along quite well. She was very down to earth and relaxed. We started on the beach first and worked our way up to the trees & greens. And we just played and explored with our boys while she took pictures. Of course we did some posed, which I love, but the ones where my boys are just running and smiling are the best. It was a lot of fun. After about an hour we went back to our cars, met her extremely sweet family who was exploring the sanctuary and Lydia mentioned she would be in touch with me soon about the pictures.
A few days later she emailed me with a thank you note and some amazing photographs. I picked out which ones we wanted to keep (came with the contest prize) and they were sent to me in a link, a few on Facebook with my permission and a few hard copies in the mail.
All in all, working with Lydia was great. My family is very lucky for this opportunity and I'm thankful for the beautiful pictures hanging on my walls.
