NANTUCKET BOOK FESTIVAL, JUNE 19-21, 2015 FEATURES FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENTS and PRESENTATIONS BY AWARD-WINNING CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULT AUTHORS
The fourth annual Nantucket Book Festival, June 19-21, 2015 has become a destination for book lovers of every stripe, and this year features a strong group of children’s and young adult authors who will be presenting at the Festival. Among those who are participating: Kari Anne Holt, (Rhyme Schemer, a novel in verse); R.W. Alley, illustrator of the Paddington Bear books, who will be appearing with his wife Zoe Alley (Enzo Races in the Rain); J.E. Thomson (Disappearance from Hangman’s Bluff, the sequel to his award-winning The Girl from Felony Bay); and Samantha Van Leer (Between the Lines), co-authored with her mother Jodi Picoult. All these author events are free. Free programs for younger audiences are centered around the Festival Tent in the Nantucket Atheneum Garden on Friday and Saturday (9:00-3:00pm). A family-friendly Story Time will be held each morning (9:00-11:30am), and on Saturday the Story Time offerings will include stories read in seven languages (Spanish, Lithuanian, Bulgarian, Nepalese, Russian, Portuguese, and Jamaican Patois). Also on Saturday, “Barnaby Bear” will be greeting young fans, a Scavenger Hunt will challenge young explorers, and “Read to a Buddy” Reading Therapy Dogs will be waiting to hear a few stories told by young students. Of interest to both children and adults, The Typewriter Rodeo, a group of Austin, TX-based poets will be on hand to compose and type poems on-demand on vintage typewriters. The Nantucket Book Festival is a multi-day cultural event celebrating the rich literary history and community on Nantucket Island. The Festival has a partnership with the PEN/Faulkner’s Writers in Schools Program to bring celebrated authors to the Nantucket public schools, and this past March hosted the award-winning author, Jacqueline Woodson. Additionally, the Nantucket Book Festival hosts a Young Writer Contest, and the Young Writer Award will be presented at the Opening Night of the Book Festival.
