1.) How long have you lived on Cape Cod?
I moved to Cape Cod and settled in Brewster in 1991 with my husband Pete, where we raised 2 daughters, now ages 21 and 22.
2.) When and why did you start your business?
In October of 2007 I received the call that all parents dread. My daughter had lice! I immediately went into attack mode. After picking her up at school I went straight to the pharmacy and bought an over-the-counter lice kit and headed home ready to battle. Well little did I know that this battle was going to continue for 6 months! After using the lice kit, then a prescription from my pediatrician and a nit picker in Boston, I learned that some cases of lice are resistant to the common pesticides sold today. Through personal experience I was able to develop a process that gets rid of lice quickly and effectively. I have been treating Cape and Island families since 2009.
3.) What do you LOVE most about your job?
I love that I get to meet so many interesting people, locals and Cape visitors. I always leave with a feeling of gratefulness that I have a skill that helps so many different people.
4.) How does your business help/impact local families?
One of the top reasons for truancy is kids staying home due to head lice infestations. I am able to help families get back to work, school and life faster.
5.) In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing Cape Cod Families?
Most families have 2 working parents in order to live on Cape Cod and it is very difficult for these parents to take time off when sick or have a sick child (or lice infested).
6.) If you had to pick your favorite local spot on Cape Cod (not a business), where would you pick and why?
I love spending time on Nauset's outer beach with my family. I have so many memories of raising my children out there and love to see them as young adults enjoying it just as much as when they were young.
7.) Please offer a tip for our Mom Audience:
Lice is not a dirty thing! They prefer clean hair. When you get that dreaded call, take a deep breath and know that a lice infestation is survivable! There is help out there and you are not alone.
8.) Any other information you would like us to share? (upcoming events? Awards? Anything you think our community would find useful, Etc)
I am Cape Cod’s Original head lice nitpicker. My goal is to help families save time and money on lice and nit removal through a pesticide free process. I am also trying to educate families, schools and summer camps on the misconceptions of head lice and help people erase their feelings of shame and helplessness.
