Fleeting Moments Photography![]()
1. Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
Fleeting Moments Photography is a local business that believes in supporting the community in any way it can. Frequently we will volunteer our time to a cause or give away gift certificates for silent auctions to help in raising money. 2. Where is it located? Fleeting Moments Photography is located in South Dennis but we travel the Cape within a 20 mile radius of Dennis 3. What is your favorite part about our community? Cape Cod is a very relaxed and chill community. The people we have encountered truly are great people. 4. How else do you get involved with the community? I will partner with other businesses in the community which in turn helps us both. I help out where ever I can with my kids extracurricular activities and schools. 5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community? I think the biggest challenges facing parents is technology - where our kids are concerned. It's difficult to constantly monitor what they are doing as technology is ever changing. I have a 10 year old and a 13 year old and I am constantly on them to make sure they are safe. 6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business? Over the past seven years I have met so many great families and captured their memories. I love seeing families grow year after year. So many of my clients have become good friends. 7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community? Follow your instincts - always. Your gut feelings will lead you in the right direction. Once I had my son, i knew that I did not want to keep working full time in an office. It took me three years and I was able to quit working to raise our kids. Thankfully, I did. A few short years later my son was diagnosed with Autism and I am so happy that I followed my heart and was able to be home for him during the rough years. It just didn't seem natural for me to be at work while someone else was taking care of him. I know that if I did not make that decision years ago, he would be a much different person. 8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know? I am starting to book family photo sessions now and if you book before March 31st, you get an additional free 8x10 print with your session. Family Photo Sessions cost $195 and include an 8x10 photo (good for up to six people). The summer months fill up quickly.

The Children's Workshop![]()
1.) Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
We are a family owned and operated set of early learning centers that offer programs for children from 6 weeks up through 13 years old. We are unique to the communities we serve. We provide breakfast lunch and snack in our locations. We pride ourselves in being available to families as we provide 10 hours of care per day, and are open in inclement weather because we know many families have demanding schedules themselves. We have been on the cape for over 10 years. 2. Where is it located? We have 19 locations all over southern MA and throughout RI. Our two cape locations are in Bourne and South Dennis 3. What is your favorite part about our community? Being on cape cod is like living in a small town. We are a staple in each of the towns we provide care for, and everyone knows someone who has attend at least one of our schools. 4. How else do you get involved with the community? In South Dennis we help sponsor one of the 5k races in the summer. In Bourne we are a sponsor for the Bourne Braves, and we have also provide free story hours in the past for families to attend. 5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community? I feel as though the one of the biggest challenges facing our families today is the work home balance. We pride ourselves in providing a safe, fun, and loving environment for the children of this community to go while their parents are having to work and spend time away from the home. 6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business? Through out my time with The Children's Workshop there have been many memories and stories the have stood out in my mind. I think for me the common theme in all of them for me would be when the child has that "light bulb" moment. When you have helped them complete the same task hundreds of times then all of a sudden they are showing you how they can complete it on their own. That is when you know the work we do as early educators is meaningful and rewarding. 7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community? Get involved in your child's life. Help them explore and enjoy the world around them while creating an infectious child like sense of wonder. 8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know? We provide many events throughout the year free and open to the public. Our next event is our Parent's Night Out on Tuesday Feb, 13th from 6pm to 8pm. It is a $20 donation to our foundation for all non Children's Workshop families.

Melissa Zawadzki - Usborne Books![]()
1.) Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
Usborne Books & More is an award-winning publisher of the most exciting, engaging, and educational books on the market today! They are high-quality, innovative, lavishly-illustrated, and best of all, they are the books kids love to read! Usborne Books & More provides books that can compete with the vast media that attracts children today. From activity books, to fantastic fiction stories and wonderful multicultural picture book stories and more, Usborne Books & More is broadening the world and imaginations of children of all ages, while promoting literacy. 2. Where is it located? Usborne Books and More is based in the UK, with divisions in the U.S. and other parts of the world. 3. What is your favorite part about our community? Sandwich has been my home for the last 6 years, and I have enjoyed the small-town feel of this community. When my family first moved here, we came home to brownies on our doorstep from our neighbor! I didn’t think, before moving here, that people did things like this in real life! Since then, we have been helped in multiple ways in this community, and we have tried to do our share to help out too. I love seeing how this community comes together to support each other! 4. How else do you get involved with the community? I have been attending a vendor show monthly in Falmouth, in which I can share my love for these amazing books and also support other moms and their passion for their companies! 5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community? Not only in our community, but in every community really, I think one of the biggest challenges parents face today is the overabundance of media available to our children. There is no way to shut it out from our children’s lives completely, but I think it is important to try and set aside some non-electronic time for our children every day, whether that’s reading a book, playing outside, playing a board game, or all of the above. 6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business? I have only been involved with Usoborne Books & More for about 7 months now, but I am encouraged every time I receive a message from a parent, saying that their child loves their new book! On one occasion, I had sent a message, to a women who placed an order with me, that her books should be arriving to her that day. She emailed me back saying that she had been having a bad day, and that receiving my message had made her day. That in turn made my day! I love sharing these books and seeing how happy they make parents and their children! 7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community? To parents and caregivers, I would say to spend great quality time with your children! Make that time count. Reading, playing, crafting, talking, listening all serve to create a strong bond between parent and child, which in turn, will give that child confidence and allow for better social/emotional development. 8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know? I have a VIP group on Facebook that can be found at facebook.com/groups/capedbooks , where I post the latest info, specials, sales, new releases, etc. There is also a link to order books at any time! If you are interested in learning more about these amazing books, I encourage you to join!

1.) Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
My business was started in November of 2017. My mom was insistent that I do something constructive over the summer and since I didn’t want to go to camp or any summer programs, we agreed that I would work on my art. I would like to be an inspiration to families and other kids my age and let them know that when families members support and encourage each other, great things can come from it. You can have a closer relationship with each other and you can accomplish goals. 2. Where is it located? My work space is at my house on Cape Cod. I have attended three vendor events (The Parenting Expo will be my 4th). My website is worldwide since it is on the internet. 3. What is your favorite part about our community? I like the beaches and the hiking trails and I like it that my grandparents are nearby. I don’t like cities that much. 4. How else do you get involved with the community? I attend the craft fairs and I am part of the youth group at the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church. I also play the piano, so I have done a few recitals and played at church. 5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community? I’m not sure. You would have to ask my mom about that, but I think it might be a challenge for my parents to take care of my brother and I, all the responsibilities of taking care of the house and all the tasks that come with it. 6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business? My favorite part of my business in this short time is seeing what pieces of my art work people like the most and what their favorite products are. 7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community? I think it is really important to spend time together as a whole family and to be positive. 8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know? I’m really looking forward to improving my art skills and working on mermaids and other scenes from the sea! I hope that you will follow me on facebook at @jessicasoriginalart and sign up for my blog at www.jessicalamperti.com! I am looking forward to meeting new friends at the Parenting Expo this weekend! The quality of my pillows is AMAZING and I kind of like the artwork! We had to buy them in batches of 6 and because of that, we have a lot of pillows and my mom said they take up a lot of space to store, so they will be a VERY good price at the Parenting Expo! ~Jessica

Crayon College![]()
1. Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
Crayon College at Bourne serves children 6 weeks through 6 years. We are open Monday through Friday from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm with open enrollment year-round. We believe that children learn and develop in a secure, loving environment. Since we are concerned with the whole child and each child as an individual, we aim to balance their development in all areas: social, emotional, physical, and intellectual while always promoting a positive atmosphere. 2. Where is it located? We are conveniently located just minutes from the Bourne rotary at 254 Shore Road in Bourne. 3. What is your favorite part about our community? Our favorite part about this community is all the resources it provides for the different types of family units in the community. We also really enjoy all the family-oriented community events that happen throughout the year, and especially the events that the Bourne for Children Council put on weekly for families as well. 4. How else do you get involved with the community? Crayon College at Bourne is heavily involved in the community and especially working directly with the Bourne For Children Council on important topics and concerns for the children of Bourne. We also work very closely with families from the military base and from the Village of Cataumet. 5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community? We think the biggest challenge facing parents in the community is the lack of outside support systems for their families. Crayon College makes it our mission to provide as much support and care as possible to allow these families to feel at ease and provided for. 6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business? Crayon College was established in Kingston in 2004, opening the second location in Plymouth in 2007, then Bourne in 2016. Our favorite memory by far was last year when we were voted the #1 Day Care/Preschool in the 2017 Wicked Local Readers’ Choice Awards for the lower South Shore area. Our Plymouth location was awarded Regional Gold too! 7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community? Advice to the parents and caregivers of the community, Crayon College wants your children to be confident in their ability to manage their school environment, to solve problems, to make friends and to rely on adults who are not family members for guidance and support. Children who enter child-care at a young age tend to go off to elementary school a little more confident, independent, and eager to learn. 8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know? We do have a lot of fun and exciting things planned for the upcoming year. We will be out in the community for various things so keep a look-out for our name. Follow us on Facebook for more upcoming event details! |
