Get in the Cape Cod Festivus Spirit with
Tracy from Lamperti Counseling & Consultation Follow her on Essential Oils Website Facebook Group Facebook Page How do you and/or your business get into the spirit of giving? At Lamperti Counseling & Consultation, I like to start by looking at my schedule and making sure I have accounted for “giving” to my own family. It is so easy to get caught up in running a business that in the past, I have found myself short-changing my own loved ones. But after I have looked at time management, I am off and running with getting involved with giveaways such as this one at Cape Cod Moms! It is such a wonderful feeling to give! What is your favorite part about this time of year? This time of the year, I love the crisp feel in the air and the Christmas lights and demonstrations bring a lot of joy. What is your local family “must attend” holiday event? Our “must attend” is our church Christmas celebration. We attend the Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church in Brewster and it is always a special time to gather around the youth and adult choir activities. There is also a very special Christmas Eve candlelight ceremony. Would you share with us a family tradition? My Mum is very big on tradition and celebration. There have been times that it seems just too much to do it all, but the truth is that we are all so grateful to her that she keeps the spirit of tradition. Some of our holiday traditions are; lighting the advent wreath at dinner for all of advent season, getting all of the kids (and some adults) together for a Gingerbread House decorating session (we all get our own, even the little ones), having married into the Italian traditions, we have many food traditions including, Italian cookies, homemade ravioli, prosciutto, and so much more! If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be? I wish that families would support one another more fully and appreciate the gift that family is. What are your words festive words of advice for our families during this special time? Like I need to do, plan ahead for good time management, take walks together to break up all of the eating (lol) and get the energy out, don’t worry about the toys, put your devices away, capture the memories digitally but don’t miss the experience because you are so busy capturing the memories. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Chocolate silk pie!

Tips on how to make kids more appreciative
Only as adults do people sometimes discover that one of the keys to happiness is gratitude. Being thankful for what we have can be very difficult for kids who believe that they can always depend on their parents for whatever they want. There are a lot of values that parents should instill to their kids, and gratitude should be one of them. Grateful children are not only pleasing to be with but also grow up to be fine adults who care about the world around them. In a study, it was also discovered that children who know how to be grateful are less likely to do drugs and get depressed later in life. Here are three solid ways on how to help your children appreciate the things around them more. Let them remember all the things they’ve received for a day At dinner, instead of asking your kids how their day was, you can directly ask them “what are the things that you’re thankful for today?” Asking them how their day was can simply be replied with an automatic “fine,” but asking them a more specific question can make them think before answering. Tell them it’s alright to share even the littlest of things, as long as they’re grateful for them. Regularly doing this can train their mindset to look at the bright side of events even if things aren’t going their way. Make donating and volunteering a habit Children outgrow their toys. When they do, it’s a good habit to donate them to the less fortunate. Explain to your children that you’re donating things to others because not everyone is a fortunate kid. Not all children can eat 3 times a day and have the leisure to play whenever they want to. Organizations that actively aid children in countries troubled by armed conflict is evidence that not all children have it easy. Tell them that it’s only human to give back to others in need, and they should be thankful that they aren’t experiencing the suffering of others. Make them work for the things they really want The more kids realize how much effort it takes to get what they want, the more thankful they’d be once they receive the reward. If you always give them what they want, they might grow up spoiled. However, if they learn the value of hard work at an early age, they will appreciate what they get more because they’ve worked hard for it. Not only will they be grateful for the reward at the end but they will also feel satisfied with themselves. Ornament Workshop
Friday Nov 27, 2015 10am-1pm Cape Cod Children's Museum Cape Cod Moms & the Cape Cod Children's Museum will be hosting an ornament decorating workshop the day after Thanksgiving. We have teamed up this year to participate in both the Falmouth and Mashpee Christmas Parades. As part of our float, we will have 5 Christmas trees (split between the 2 floats) that will be donated after the parades to 5 local families in our community in the following areas: Veterans - Heroes in Transition Falmouth Service Center A Senior A Family with young children Cape Cod Center for Women Children who participate in the Ornament Workshop on Friday Nov 27, 2015 from 10am-1pm at Cape Cod Children's Museum will have the option to decide which tree they wish for their ornament to adorn. We are hoping to include the kids in our season of giving and helping those less fortunate. We would love for you all to join us and help spread some cheer!

How do you and/or your business get into the spirit of giving?
I like to host giveaways on my business page to give back to all y awesome fans who support me throughout the year. If I can find some extra time, I'd like to donate some hats and gloves to people in need this year. To get into the spirit of giving personally, I am making sure that this year and in all the years to follow, my kids and I donate to Toys for Tots or to a family in need. I'd like my children to realize how good it feels to help others and to know that the holidays are about more than just receiving gifts.
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
I really love everything about this time of year! I love all of the family gatherings, putting up and decorating the Christmas tree, the lights, the music, the baking, the movies, everything! I'm a huge fan of the holidays!!
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
My family doesn't have a "must attend" holiday event but in the past few years we have gone to see the lights at the Cape Codder in Hyannis. It's a fun thing to bring the kids to see. They can also get their picture taken with Santa and have hot chocolate and cookies!
Would you share with us a family tradition?
Every year my family gathers at my aunt's house on Christmas Eve for dinner, desserts, and a big yankee swap. I think every single family member looks forward to that night! We have done it ever since I was a child, although back then, our parents each brought us one present that we were allowed to open that night, instead of the yankee swap. It's a very fun and very special time. It just makes Christmas feel so much more like Christmas when you are surrounded by your whole family.
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
I know it sounds so cliche, but is there anyone who isn't wishing for world peace this holiday season? The world is becoming a very scary place. If only we could all just recognize that we are all human beings on this Earth together and could accept each other's differences…it would be a beautiful thing. I'll just keep wishing.
What are your words festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
My words of advice to everyone during this special time is to slow down and enjoy it all. This season comes and goes so fast and it's easy to get caught up in all the hustle and bustle of shopping, of life in general. Go do something festive with your family or start a new tradition. Remember what the season is about! Spend time with children-the excitement they have this time of year is contagious! I'm attempting to take my own advice this season, as I stopped taking orders so I could focus more on my family and less on stress!
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Do I have to just pick one?! I have a serious sweet tooth! I love everything but I'd say cheesecake, cookies, and brownies are among my favorites!
Do you have any special deals taking place? If yes, what and when, etc?
Although I have stopped taking orders, I will still offer some items for sale as I make them! Keep up with my page to check it all out!

We have compiled our annual list of all Family friendly Christmas and Holiday Events taking place on Cape Cod as well as Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Plymouth, Carver and Surrounding Areas. Our listings include parades, cookie strolls, train rides, Santa, and so much more!

How do you and/or your business get into the spirit of giving?
I always love participating in Festivus! I've also been participating in raffles for discounted sessions at recent events and I've met some great people. New this year, I'm going to be giving out special gifts to returning clients, so make sure you check your mail! I love working with the same families and seeing their growth.
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
As much as I'm starting to not love driving at night, I do enjoy seeing all of the holiday lights! I was excited to see the trees getting decorated at the Mashpee Rotary recently.
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
A few years ago, I took my nephew to Edaville for their Christmas train ride - he fell asleep, but we had a good time! It's definitely worth checking out if you've never been.
Would you share with us a family tradition?
When we were little, we would always open one present on Christmas Eve - a new pair of pajamas - and then sit and watch Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. I still enjoy the movie, even at 37. I love the scene where Mr. Hooper brings back Ernie's rubber ducky and Bert's paperclip collection. :)
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
This is a tough one - so many huge things to wish for in the world these days with all that has been going on - I guess I would just wish everyone a peaceful time.
What are your festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
Slow down and remember to enjoy the day. Notice the little things and take in the smiles...They might not be very festive, but they're important!
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Peppermint ice cream, apple pie, molasses cookies....hard to choose!
Do you have any special deals taking place? If yes, what and when, etc?
I am currently running portfolio-building sessions for "Lifestyle Newborn" photos - one-hour, documentary photo sessions that take place in your home and help you to remember those first few days with you new little one! I would love to offer a special deal to anyone due in December or January... Please email me for details: cathie@emeraldeyephoto.com
