We hang Christmas and holiday cards up in our office. We have joined with Cape Cod Moms the past few years to offer a prize for their annual Festivus Giveaway including this year offering the grand prize. To get in the festive spirit, we have also decided to offer a college scholarship for 2016 to a local student. There will be more information on our website in the new year!
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
The festive spirit of the season which includes family, community and everyone coming together.
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
We love attending the Christmas POPS in Boston every year. Locally we love watching the Falmouth Christmas parade as well!
Would you share with us a family tradition?
My children are all grown now, but each year our family gets together the weekend before Christmas with all of our grandchildren to celebrate. We do this the weekend prior to the holiday because we believe strongly that children should be home on Christmas Day. When my children were young they would each get a giant stocking. Now we have continued that tradition to the grandchildren and their presents always include matching Christmas pajamas.
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
Peace & Harmony
What are your festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
Spend time just being with your children with no time limit. The moments you spend now will create memories and a foundation of family and support for your children. Enjoy the magic of the season and teach them the spirit of giving.
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Homemade Christmas Fudge

In November, we held our most successful two-day Turkey Shoot Golf Tournament & Food Pantry Drive at Blue Rock Golf Course. Golfers who won the "closest to the pin" contest on each hole won a turkey, and many of them were donated back to Create the Good D-Y Schools to help provide Thanksgiving meals to families in need. In all, $1400 was donated, as well as 120 turkeys and 80 full Thanksgiving dinners. It's always a great event, but this year so many friends of Blue Rock Golf Course found out about the food pantry drive through Facebook and dropped off donations all weekend - we were so grateful for the generosity of our members, friends and neighbors. Currently, The Davenport Companies, which includes Blue Rock Golf Course and Red Jacket Resorts, are holding their annual Employee Donation Drive matching challenge. This year, the charitable giving program will support The Yarmouth Food Pantry, A Baby Center and The Cape Cod Times Needy Fund. So the spirit of giving is really part of the fabric of the companies, especially at this time of year. Personally, I like to donate to a few specific organizations at Christmas, Fisher House, St. Jude’s and I like to support the Cape Abilities Farm on 6A in Dennis by shopping there for my Christmas tree and greens.
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
I love everything about this time of year! Seeing the holiday lights around town, baking Christmas cookies, putting up the Christmas Tree and getting together with family are all favorites.
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
I grew up in Dennis so I love the Dennis Village event with the decorated gazebo and crèche at Dennis Union Church. The Yarmouthport Stroll and tree lighting is a favorite too. We don’t get to everything every year, so I try to find something that fits into our schedule.
Would you share with us a family tradition?
My mother’s family had a lot of traditions and recipes that I’ve kept as part of our holidays. One that goes back to my great-grandmother’s family in England is the Christmas Cake. It’s a 10 lb. fruitcake that we make the second week in November. It’s massive and doesn’t even fit in my 6qt.mixer, but we mix it in a lobster pot. We laugh about it, and talk about whether or not my grandmother would approve of our efforts! It’s not really about the cake, but it’s our way to connect with our heritage.. We’re not even sure who in the family likes it, but it’s a tradition, so we are keeping it alive. Right before Christmas it gets covered in marzipan and royal frosting before it is decorated. Just recently I found through Instagram that other people in the UK make the same cake, often the same weekend in November. So we’re not the only ones hanging on to this tradition.
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
If it’s just one wish I’ll make it a big one - Peace on Earth.
What are your words festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
The greatest gift you can give your family, especially your children is your time. That’s what they’ll remember. So don’t go crazy buying excessive gifts or striving for perfection. Be mindful of the tasks that consume the time you could be spending with your loved ones.
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
That crazy fruitcake mentioned above. The day after Christmas, I’ll have that with a cup of
tea and enjoy the Christmas Tree.
Do you have a favorite holiday song? If so, which one and why?
The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole would be my top choice. Sometimes the holidays can be stressful, but for me any stress fades into the background when that song is playing. We made a
Red Jacket Resorts Holiday Road Trip playlist on Spotify, and I had to add that one.

I love the holiday season through my children’s eyes. They are so excited and the magic is truly alive to them. It is so special!
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
We are big fans of the Polar Express ride on Cape Cod Railroad!
Would you share with us a family tradition?
As a travel agent, our biggest tradition is to travel for the holidays! We love to visit Walt Disney World during Christmas because it is stunning! We also love to visit warm weather destinations like Turks and Caicos, The Bahamas, Jamaica and Barbados. Traveling together provides us with time together we do not have otherwise due to busy school and work schedules.
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
I would wish for time with my family uninterrupted by work, school, and to do lists!
What are your words festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
Enjoy every second of your time together! Make your own magic as a family!
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Anything with peanut butter!
Do you have a favorite holiday song? If so, which one and why?
Dominic the Donkey! My life revolves around travel, but when I am not traveling I am spending time with my horses and this song reminds me of how wonderful our little horse and donkey friends are!

LuLaRoe - Emily Rae

For me personally, this time of year brings about the inclination to give. I look around at how blessed I am, that I have a good job, a wonderful family and a roof over my head and I think about those that aren't as fortunate. The holidays can be an especially tough time for many as they try to provide a good Christmas for their kids or miss family that's not there, etc.
It makes me want to help and give back.
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
The love and warmth. I feel people are more nice and talk to each other more often. Everyone is smiling and in celebration mode.
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
Every year we go to LaSalette "Festival of Lights" in Attleboro. We're also making a habit of going to Edaville Railroad around this time to see their lights and Santa.
Would you share with us a family tradition?
Our family does a "gag Yankee Swap" every year. We all bring something that we don't particularly want (or that no one would particularly want) and wrap it up for a Yankee Swap. It's a lot of laughs.
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
For good health and happiness for the following year.
This year I also wish for success with my new LuLaRoe business.
What are your words festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
Don't let family disputes ruin your holidays. If someone has beef with someone else, ask them both to agree to put their differences aside for the sake of others, especially the children. This is a magical time for them and it's important to keep civil and cordial. I have no issues calling out a family member or friend who is bringing too much negativity to gatherings. It's not about us,
it's about Jesus, giving, and the kids.
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Christmas cookies and egg nog.
Do you have a favorite holiday song?
If so, which one and why? I could listen to the Elvis Christmas album over and over again. My mom has been playing it around Christmas for as long as I can remember.
To me, those songs are as much a part of Christmas as the tree.

Christmas Music! My family and I donate every year to various children's causes. It makes me sad to think that there are children who go without especially at this time of year.
What is your favorite part about this time of year?
I love to look at Christmas lights and other various buildings decorated for the season.
What is your local family “must attend” holiday event?
Well this is the first holiday season that I have a lot of time to actually spend with my family. We always try to make it to one of the surrounding town's holiday strolls and most years we go to the Falmouth Christmas Parade
Would you share with us a family tradition?
Growing up my parents bought my sister and I a new ornament for our tree. I love decorating my tree and using all of those ornaments. We have started to do that for our children as well.
If you could have one wish this holiday season, what would it be?
That everyone could slow down and really focus on what is most important- the people in their lives. I would wish that everyone is happy and not stressed about buying the right present.
What are your words festive words of advice for our families during this special time?
Enjoy the time! The holiday's come so fast and are over so fast!
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Any pie or cupcake!
Do you have a favorite holiday song? If so, which one and why?
I love all Christmas music! I start listening to it the day after Thanskgiving!

This past Sunday night my family and I were given the chance to visit Gardens Aglow at Heritage Gardens in Sandwich, MA (we received complimentary admission in return for an unbiased review). Gardens Aglow is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 4:30pm-8:30pm between now and 12/18 tickets are Member Adults (12+): $15, Member Youth (3-18 years): $5, Non-Member Adults (12+): $18, Non-Member Youth (3-11 years): $7 and Children ages 2 and under are free. I would definitely recommend buying tickets ahead of time and getting there right at 4:30.
As you may know my family and I love Heritage Gardens in the summer time and as member are there quite often. We had never been in late Fall and we're not sure exactly what to expect. I fed the kids on the way there and we arrived shortly before 4:30pm and got a prime parking spot in the main lot (that being said parking is much better now that they have finished construction). When we arrived it was 31 degrees and felt like winter so after bundling up we were off. Checkin was easy and well set up. As you enter Heritage the car museum directly in front of you is lit up beautifully (with the moon rising it was great wintery sight) and a Heritage guide is there handing out a scavenger hunt to find all 9 of Santa’s “lost” reindeer (a great motivator to get the kids to walk the whole light display).
After finding the first reindeer we headed into the car museum to see Santa. The line was short since it was only 4:35pm but the kids were apprehensive about Santa and only wanted to watch as others had their pictures taken with Santa in the Model T (a great photo opp). As we walked along to the special exhibit hall the kids enjoyed see all the beautiful lights and finding more reindeer. The baby animals were setup outside the exhibit hall and the line was short but because my husband had a cold and was freezing we decided to go inside first and warm up which was a strategic mistake as the line was way too long when we came out so we didn’t end up see the baby animals and the kids were very disappointed (check out the their website for other special activities like the bubble man). Inside the special exhibit hall was an amazing train set up and a bunch of artistic table settings. There was also a family craft area to make ornaments; a fun way to be inside and warm up. Next we head to the carousel which was busy by now but we managed to get two rides without too much of a wait. I also got to checkout the Hundred Acre School that look like a pretty great place to send your preschooler (there were some kid activities in there also if you need more indoor time)!
The kids were disappointed that Hidden Hollows was not decorated too but were excited enough about find the few reindeer we missed on the way in and roasting marshmallow at the cafe (purposely saved to the end to motivate them up the big hill at the end of the visit). Other than the marshmallow roasting my kid’s favorite parts were the carousel and the light tunnels. My favorite part was the reindeer hunt and enjoying all the lovely lights.

Have you been to Gardens Aglow? What did you enjoy most?
