Cape Cod Young Professionals
1. Tell us about your business/non profit and how it benefits local families?
CCYP is a local nonprofit working to connect, engage, and advance Cape Cod's emerging workforce and future community leaders. For local families, this means working to support the issues that they feel are most pressing within our community. This year, many of our initiatives focused on housing and childcare, two priorities the CCYP community identified as top priorities for themselves and their families. CCYP's goal is to help provide the resources young professionals and families need to build their lives and businesses right here on Cape Cod.
2. Where is it located?
Our offices are located in West Yarmouth, but our work expands from Bourne all the way to Provincetown.
3. What is your favorite thing about our community?
The passion that runs through our community! We meet so many young professionals and families across the Cape that care deeply for our community and work tirelessly to improve our home for future generations. Their passion for our community continuously inspires our work and pushes us to continue the hard work that's needed to support the future of Cape Cod.
4. How else do you get involved with the community?
Volunteerism is an incredibly important and powerful way to have an impact on our community. Civic engagement is one of the key pillars to our organization and we try to encourage active participation on committees and boards, as well as staying engaged with local town meetings.
5. What do you think are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community?
We recognize the availability and affordability of childcare as one of the most challenging obstacles for parents on Cape Cod. At CCYP, we identified childcare as one of the most pressing issues through our 2018 Community Need Survey and, this past year, focused our Giving Circle grants on both childcare and housing. Our hope is to help support programs from across the Cape that are working to bring affordable childcare to all families that need it.
6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business?
Our most recent annual event, our 13th Annual Community Breakfast, is one of our favorite (and most recent!) memories of CCYP. Bringing the CCYP community together always leaves us with a renewed sense of dedication and excitement about our mission to connect, engage, and advance Cape Cod's workforce and community leaders. This year, we were lucky enough to have Jung-Ho Pak from the Cape Symphony as our keynote speaker and he left the entire audience feeling inspired!
7. What advice would you give parents and caregivers in our community?
Be involved and use your voice within your community. It's important for our community leaders to know what issues are most important to you and your family. Attend town meetings, join committees and boards, and talk to your neighbors - being an active force in our community is so important and necessary in shaping Cape Cod's future.
8. Do you have any specials, events, or anything else taking place this upcoming year that our parents should know about?
Our next annual event is the Shape Your Cape Summit on April 4th, 2019! The Shape Your Cape Summit is a one-day conference featuring interactive workshops and panel discussions on topics ranging from career development to civic engagement and work/life balance. The event is designed to facilitate community conversation around a variety of issues that impact quality of life and career opportunity for young people living and working on Cape Cod. Tickets will be on sale soon!
