An Event of Shared Community and Cooperation On Saturday October 19th, the Woods Hole Child Center will be hosting its 33rd annual clothing sale at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Hall on the Falmouth Village Green. The selection of clothing is enormous and includes outerwear, women’s and men’s casuals and professional attire, children’s clothing, shoes, some children’s equipment, and Halloween costumes. Doors open at 9am. Clothing is priced very reasonably, most items priced between $1-$8. The sale ends with a “$5-a-bag” blitz from 2-3pm. This is a very popular part of the event and many who shop earlier in the day return for this bargain bonanza. Proceeds from the clothing sale will help cover the Center’s operational expenses. The Woods Hole Child Center Clothing Sale has been a staple in the lives of many Falmouth and greater Cape Cod residents. Many hands pitch in to make light work of this event and clothing donations are always welcome. The Child Center accepts gently used clothing and equipment, and they are happy to sell items on consignment with a 50/50 split. Interested donors are encouraged to visit the website (www.woodsholechildcenter.org) and click on the tab labeled “clothing sale” or contact the Child Center at 508-548-1773 for more information. Clothing drop off is scheduled for Friday, October 18th from 9am-12pm, at St. Barnabas Hall. The quality of clothing should be mentioned too. Year after year, shoppers are astounded at the bargains that are available. In a time of increasing awareness of our responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment, recycling clothing in this manner makes this truly a “green” event! In order to further benefit the community, the WHCC would like to work with other local charitable entities by offering them the opportunity to come pick up the clothing at the end of the sale. This must be pre-arranged through the Child Center. This week Cape Kids Cast Explores their Top 3 favorite places to go for ice cream in Falmouth: Smitty's, Ghelfi's, & Ben & Bill's. ![]() This week we journey to Falmouth for our Hidden Freebie, to a magical place called Spohr Gardens! Lately I have steered ALOT of Cape Cod Moms to this fabulous spot as a free fun way to kill time! But first a brief history..... Margaret and Charles D. Spohr began creating this wondrous setting around their home, located on the back of Oyster Pond, in the 1950s. As the legend of the gardens' uniqueness and beauty grew, they generously welcomed the ever-growing number of visitors. After Charles Spohr died in 1997 and Margaret Spohr in 2001, the gardens were left to the Margaret K. Spohr and Charles D. Spohr Charitable Trust. Under the terms of the trust the property is to be open to the public every day of the year from 8am to 8pm. No admission may be charged but tax deductible donations are accepted.
