![]() Creative Fundraising on Cape Cod By: Sarah Richards Who here dreads fundraisers? (Not another magazine drive!) We were looking for a social (and local!) way to both raise some funds for our kiddos, and to bring new business to some locals. After bouncing the idea of having a wine and oyster night off of Cape Cod Winery owner Erika Orlandella, she was thrilled at the idea! And just like that, we were off and running. ![]() The West Falmouth Preschool held their first annual wine and oyster fundraiser at Cape Cod Winery this past Saturday on a quintessential New England October afternoon. Complete with crisp air, a beautiful sunset, pumpkins, cheery mums, haybales, cornstalks, and fire pits, guests lounged in Adirondack chairs overlooking the vineyard, and sipped their vines under the twinkling lights of the grand white tent on the hill. ![]() The school provided deliciously "stick-to-your-ribs" comfort foods like New England Clam Chowder, pulled chicken sandwiches, and Portuguese "Jagg," for guests to purchase. Accompanying these soul foods were the freshest oysters from the famed (and local!) Megansett Oyster Company. These sweet and briny delicasies were such a hit, we had sold a whole bushel in less than an hour! ![]() Guests were wowed by the musical offerings of the Black Velvet Band (an Irish duo) and singer/songwriter Ric Allendorf throughout the afternoon and evening. The beautifully elegant Pop-Up Bubbly Van provided limited edition bubbly versions of Cape Cod Winery's famous "Mermaid Water" Rose and Riesling, which were a huge hit with the crowd! Additionally, guests were treated to the most gorgeous backdrop (for all their Instagram pics!) complete with a towering white flower wall and (biodegradable) balloon display from Elevated Impressions. ![]() Delicious wine flowed, music wafted through the crisp air, firepits cast warming glows all around, chowder warmed the soul, and everyone enjoyed the company of good friends! And all this fun for a great cause AND while supporting local businesses on Cape? Oh, yes. Be sure to stay tuned for when our event will be in 2020! Cheers! ![]() Sarah is a newbie to the Cape, but has a deep love for the ocean. She has recently left her job of 10 years in music education and re-located to Falmouth to support her husbands' business. This "Mom-prenuear" is busy growing her Pure Haven Essentials business by helping families to live toxic free, clicking away behind her camera, chasing after her 2 adorable sons! As a result, the Falmouth Rotary Club is launching a major effort to raise awareness of the continued housing needs and to raise funds to help provide ShelterBoxes for ten families. The local Rotary Club will have a ShelterBox set up at peg Noonan Park from 10:00 am on Saturday, June 27, through 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 28. Residents and guests are invited to examine the tent and its contents, and to make a donation. The club raised over $10,000 four years ago with a similar project following the Haitian earthquake. ShelterBoxes contain a tent that will sleep 10 people as well as the necessary supplies that families need to return to some form or normal routine and to help restore their dignity. Since its founding in 2000, the non-profit volunteer organization has collaborated with Rotary International to respond to earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, typhoons and conflict, delivering emergency humanitarian aid to communities in need. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Syria crisis, and the biggest storm to ever make landfall – Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines; ShelterBox has responded to some of the largest humanitarian crises the modern world has ever known. Alongside this, they have also helped many thousands of people displaced by disasters that are not featured in the media. The display will be manned around the clock during the weekend. For complete information, visit www.shelterboxusa.org, www.falmouthrotary.com, or call Will Barrett (831-262-6989) or Steve Clay (508-563-5800). The owner's of Embargo in Hyannis have decided that instead of holding a birthday party for their son Aston this year, that instead they will hold a Fundraiser to raise money for Cape Cod Child Development and
more specifically Early Intervention as they were a blessing to their family. About 1 in 88 children has been identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from CDC's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. It occurs across all races, demographics, and occurs 5 times more frequently in boys then girls. No one knows for sure the true causes of autism and research is still being done; however early intervention is key to laying a successful foundation for these children. The family wishes to give back to Cape Cod Child Development as they were instrumental in their lives. ![]() Local Fundraiser to support: Academy of Early Learning and Animal Rescue League - Brewster Event runs: Dec 1 - Dec 29th.
