As we come up on a year of the global pandemic, many things remain restricted or canceled but KINDNESS, HOPE & LOVE remain! For the past 7 years we have annually celebrated the Holidays with a massive local giveaway. This year in the spirit of giving and of service to our community as well as love, we will instead highlight 24 days of local non profit organizations in our region showcasing how vitally important they are! Feel free to share your favorites or share your story in the comments below! #faithhopelove #attitudeofgratitude #holidayseason #giveuntoothers #serviceaboveself #capecod #community #oneplanet ![]() Good Grief Cape Cod is a vital resource for the Cape Cod region. In a culture that often avoids talking about loss, Good Grief Cape Cod holds a great emphasis on and support for research that children of all ages do grieve. They provide community engagement opportunities and educational workshops to show our community different ways to help children and families cope with death and loss. Good Grief Cape Cod was founded by local parent, Amy Wyman, a music therapist with a duel degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Life from Wheelock as well as a Masters in Expressive Art Therapies with a specialization in Music Therapy from Lesley University. Her dedication to ensuring that our most vulnerable population's emotional and mental health needs are met is absolutely critical especially now more than ever. Amy's passion of always looking for ways to serve her community and make the world a better place are to be admired. The organization is an initiative under the umbrella of Falmouth Together We Can, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Good Grief Cape Cod also works in partnership with several local practitioners and organizations which include: Coalition for Children, Sandwich Partnership for Families, Cape Cod Family Resource Center, Bourne for Children, DCF, Cape Cod Veterans Outreach Center, and Hope Health. Two summers ago Good Grief Cape Cod held an all day retreat for children and families at Camp Lyndon. The day was beautifully executed with dance therapy, art therapy, music therapy and so much more! The joy that was readily apparent on our local children's faces, who have had the unthinkable happen thru the loss of a parent or loved one, was the greatest gift to witness that day. The care that Good Grief took in ensuring a calming and safe place to share their stories and grief was amazing. For many years now we have partnered with Amy Wyman and Good Grief Cape Cod to assist with their outreach and to help families find the resources they need during difficult periods of their lives. We have had Amy as a guest speaker at our annual Parent Resource Fair for several year as well as on The Parent Pod to discuss Tough Topics which can be viewed by clicking those links. The information she has shared in helping educate our parents and caregivers on how to talk to our kids about gried is vital. Thank you to Good Grief Cape Cod and to Amy who works tirelessly to help our families in their critical time of need. Please take a minute and check out their updated website and donate to their organization if you can.

See you tonight at 8pm on Facebook Live! Sesame Workshop Launches Caring for Each Other Initiative to Help Parents and Children During Coronavirus Pandemic
Rich array of Sesame Street content, including newly produced Sesame Street Muppet moments designed to entertain, educate, and comfort parents, caregivers, and children (March 20, 2020 – New York, NY) – In response to the unprecedented uncertainty facing young children and families, Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, is offering a broad variety of free resources to help children and families during the coronavirus pandemic. Today’s announcement of the Caring for Each Other initiative marks the beginning of a commitment to support families for the duration of this crisis, with brand new content featuring the Sesame Street Muppets sharing messages of love and kindness, playful learning activities, and virtual play dates launching soon. Mindful that the adults who care for children need support too, the resources are intended to help caregivers as well as children. The initiative features resources designed to help parents provide comfort and manage anxiety, as well as help with creating routines, fostering playful learning at home, and staying physically and mentally healthy. SesameStreet.org/caring will be regularly updated to meet the needs of families as the situation evolves. Families can also watch Sesame Street episodes on HBO, PBS stations, and the PBS KIDS 24/7 channel, with an expanded offering of free on-demand episodes of Sesame Street on PBS KIDS digital platforms. “Around the world, young children’s lives are being turned upside down, and parents and caregivers are looking for ways to give their children—and themselves—a sense of stability in this new normal,” said Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, Senior Vice President for Curriculum and Content, Sesame Workshop. “But there are things parents and caregivers can do to face each day with optimism. Sesame Street is here to provide the caring adults in children’s lives with the resources they need to help children, and foster their healthy development at home.” Sesame Workshop is also creating brand new content on topics like handwashing, how to cough or sneeze properly, and how taking good care of yourself means taking good care of others, which will be available in the US and globally in a wide range of languages and released in the coming weeks. Sesame Street has long been a source of comfort for children and families during difficult times,” said Dr. Jeanette Betancourt, Senior Vice President for US Social Impact, Sesame Workshop. “While we don’t always know what to expect, we know that Sesame Street friends have the power to convey simple strategies and messages to help children and the caring adults in their lives find comfort. With Caring for Each Other, we can help families get through these uncertain times and build hope for the future.” Additionally, over 110 free Sesame Street ebooks are available on all major ebook platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble Nook, Google Play, and Kobo. Resources will also be distributed through a wide range of partners in the US and globally, including community providers serving vulnerable families through Sesame Street in Communities and PBS stations. For interview requests or needs for additional information, please contact hallie.ruvin@sesame.org or beatrice.chow@sesame.org. I provide birth & postpartum doula services for growing families. This means I provide:
-in-home prenatal education
-holistic care for families seeking a less invasive birth
-hand-picked resources based on your needs as a family
-on-call 24/7 attention within 2 weeks of anticipated due date
-physical presence in early labor lasting until delivery of baby
-In-Home Postpartum Care modified to suit the needs of each family.
-Education for Safe Sleeping, Baby Wearing, Bathing, Feeding & Swaddling
-Screening for Postpartum Mood Disorders
-Overnight Baby Coverage
-Light Cleaning, Cooking & Errands
-Sibling Childcare
Doula involvement in childbirth has been shown to decrease the demand for medical pain relief, risk of c-section, and postpartum depression. The support of a doula benefits the entire family by reducing a women's time in labor, increasing confidence as a new parent and providing emotional support in an overwhelmingly medicalized field of childbirth.
2. Where is it located?
Located in Falmouth; serving families throughout Cape Cod, Boston area, South Shore, North Shore & Rhode Island
3. What is your favorite part about our community?
I love the loyalty of families and their commitment to including others.
4. How else do you get involved with the community?
I work at Shuckers World Famous Raw Bar in Woods Hole during summer. I provide childcare to many local families and you may see me at the Cape Cod Children's Museum, Woods Hole Aquarium, or any local playground with children in tow.
5. What are the biggest challenges facing parents in our community?
Lack of community! We feel like parents need to do everything on their own, which is simply not true. Parenthood is hard, and deserving of support!
6. What is your favorite memory or story over the years involving you and your business?
Every baby that is born under my care and assistance is important to me. My business is extremely personal, and results in deep relationships with parents, children & families.
7. What advice would you give parents and care givers in our community?
Trust your instincts!!! You are the expert on your child, and your intuition is incredibly valuable.
Self-care is incredibly valuable. Time away to take care of yourself, is beneficial to your entire family. Do not neglect your own needs! You, and your family deserve a happy, healthy, and present parent.
"If it wasn't for your Lap Babies group, I would still be in my pajamas. Thank you for getting me out of the house!"
"I moved to the Cape and didn't know a soul. After attending your playgroup with my daughter, I made friends and so did she."
"Thank you making me, and my wiggley child, feel so welcome in Music and Movement. This group is perfect for us!"
Real quotes from real moms: if you close your eyes, you can almost here the relief in all of their voices. All of our groups are free and open to anyone with children birth to school age.
We're the Coalition for Children and we are looking for you! Registrations are available at your local library (Falmouth, Mashpee, Bourne, and Sandwich), or by calling (508) 548 0151 x 172. Once you register, follow up phone calls will go out by the first week in September and groups start the week of September 12th. Drop in groups will start at the same time, and there is no registration necessary for drop ins. Don't be left out. Call today!
