As a busy parent of a five year old boy, it is easy to get stressed around the holiday season. Preparing for parties, spending money, buying gifts, sending cards, comparing prices of the “hot” toys, finding the best local Santa events… I know I am not alone with losing the true spirit of the holidays amidst the noise. Sometimes though, you can find the perfect moment, catching the glimmer of innocence and excitement in your child’s smile, allowing you to see the wonders of the season through their eyes. For me, that moment came when our personalized letter and video arrived from PackageFromSanta.com.

The order process on the website was surprisingly easy and quick. Within a few minutes, I had selected a letter with a funny story about a cookie storm in the North Pole that I knew my son would appreciate. There were multiple letter template options targeting different age groups and interests. With a few clicks, I provided information about our family and uploaded a photo of my son, and his personalized letter was set to go. The package that I selected comes with a personalized letter, phone call, and video message from Santa himself, as well as a personalized downloadable “Nice List Guide”. There are also many upgrades and add-ons such as a certified piece of Santa’s red coat that look like a great enhancement for older children.

The letter package arrived within the week after we returned from our Thanksgiving travels. The look of wonder when I told my son that he had a package from Santa was incredible. After we read through it together, he started jumping up and down with excitement about his status on the nice list, and we put the letter in a special place. A few days later, I went back on the site to customize the video. Again, I was impressed with the quality and the number of video templates to choose from and was laughing myself at some of the hijinks the elves get up to. My son reacted even more positively to the video when we watched it together the first time and every time since.

I am saving the personalized phone call for closer to Christmas. Their app is easy to install on your phone, and I am sure he will love it! Overall, I am very happy with the quality of the products, and how personalized they are to my child. We all work hard to make the season come alive for our little ones. For me, this was an easy, inexpensive “win” to do exactly that.

Canvas Factory Turns Photographs Into Great Gifts

“Say cheese!” Like many other parents, I am always trying to capture the precious moments with my young son. Where I struggle is finding the best way to display my photographs beyond my smartphone and computer screen. I am often overwhelmed by all the photo gift websites with their near-constant emails, difficult to navigate websites, and sub-par quality products.

Therefore, when I looked at the Canvas Factory web site (http://www.canvasfactory.com/ if you are from USA and http://www.canvasfactory.com/ca if you are from Canada), I was impressed by its clean graphics, the easy to navigate photo tools, and quick check-out process.

My son and I worked together to select a photo memory that he wanted to display on a canvas in his “big boy” bedroom. This very special photo shows us spraying my husband with a fire hose after his last military flight, a once in a lifetime honored tradition in his unit. The site provides a variety of sizes, shapes, and styles to fit the photo you select. I decided to lighten the photo as it appeared a little dark on my computer screen. One of my favorite options was selected what the sides of the canvas would look like – you can wrap the photograph around the sides, you can mirror the boundaries of the photo, or the tool can help you pick the “best match” color based on your photograph. I chose the latter and appreciated that I did not have to “eyeball” the correct shade of sky blue!

A few clicks and we were ready to check out. This process was super easy as well. I do a lot of online shopping and can get frustrated at the seemingly never-ending check out process. One area of improvement is the communication of production and shipping times. It was not apparent to me when I checked out how long it would take until the canvas arrived. I received a confirmation and shipping email which provided this information, but I think users would benefit from a more prominent reminder prior to check out.

When I received the package, my son and I opened excitedly together. The canvas itself is a good quality and nicer than others I have ordered in the past. My husband commented that he liked how they framed the back of it in black instead of leaving it open (and susceptible to damage). The vividness of the colors also stood out and made me regret lightening the photo based on the computer screen image. Lesson learned for the next one I order from the Canvas Factory, which will be soon since my son is now obsessed with decorating his other walls! The pricing does seem a little higher than other sites; however, I am so happy with the quality of the product that I think Canvas Factory will be my new “go to” site for transforming my digital images into great visuals for our home or for gifts.

Baby Banana Brush Review

You may remember back in November when the Cape Cod Moms Blog featured a giveaway on the Baby Banana Brush that a lovely local mom named Laura won. Well now the banana is back (courtesy of the Baby Banana Brush company who sent us one to facilitate an honest review) and this little man wants to share his thoughts on his new brush with all his little friends!

When my little guy started to get multiple teeth, I was nervous about how I could convince a one year old to brush them every day like the doctor instructed me. I can barely get him to sit still some days, let alone stick something in his mouth and diligently clean his tiny teeth. One day, while shopping on Amazon, I received a recommendation telling me “your baby might like…” It was the baby banana toothbrush. I saw the great reviews and thought, “well what do I have to lose at that price?”

From the moment I showed him how to put the banana toothbrush in his mouth, he was hooked. The bright yellow color made it instantly recognizable and almost like a toy at first. The two handles are perfect for his little hands to hold and swish it around his mouth, like a pro. Now we brush our teeth together every day, another way he can be just like mommy. I would definitely recommend this toothbrush to other toddler moms who are looking for a fun way to introduce good hygiene habits to their little ones!

#SwitchtoCree Light Bulb Swap

If you are like me, then the only time you think about your choice of light bulbs is when they burn out. However, with rising cost of electricity, it is a thought that should be on all of our minds when managing the household budget. With this in mind, I attended the Cree Great American Light Bulb Swap on Friday 11/21 in Downtown Crossing, Boston. During this event I exchanged an outdated incandescent bulb for a brand new Cree LED bulb. There was a fun mascot “Bulby” and a ring toss game, but the biggest attraction was the free exchange of used incandescent and CFL bulbs for the new LED bulbs. For those who bring in CFL bulbs, there is the added benefit of being able to properly dispose of the mercury, which can be a nuisance. I am excited to see if the LED bulb lives up to its reputation of being 85% more efficient, thereby reducing my electric bill and the need to change it over and over again. #SwitchtoCree

Hot Milk Bra Review

When I first became a mom last summer, I was determined to breastfeed my child. No one can prepare you for how tough it is with a newborn and how it changes your identity as a woman and a wife or girlfriend. Plus the underwear choices out there for a nursing mother are not the most attractive – cotton nursing tanks and full coverage lycra nursing bras are my everyday attire. The detachable straps that you can quickly unhook and rehook when your baby is screaming for food are key in those early days. When I went shopping at a big chain store, I wondered why there not more stylish, and frankly, prettier options. That is why when I received my Hot Milk Eclipse nursing bra that they generously sent me, I was pleasantly surprised that not only was it fully functional for the nursing mother, but also very sexy. Sexier even than most of my pre-mommy lingerie! The black lace and jeweled decal give it just the right look to entice your significant other and also helped me to feel a whole lot better about my postpartum figure. At the same time, I am able to nurse and pump with ease, as the straps are just as easy to hook as my plain-jane full coverage nursing bra from the big chain store. I have to admit that I plan to continue using the Hot Milk bra even after I stop nursing and pumping, as it is one of the sexiest bras I own!
