Piczzle Puzzle Review & Giveaway

I recently ordered a Piczzle picture puzzle and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Logging into their website and uploading a photo were a snap. Luckily my in laws had just sent us some vacation pictures so I selected one based on how well it would translate to a decently difficult puzzle. I chose a shot with them being a little silly which I thought would make for a good surprise as the kids built the puzzle and they were in a lush green area which I thought would add to the challenge of the puzzle. Then came by biggest goof – I wasn't sent the full size picture file, I had just saved it from facebook so the resolution wasn't so great.

Once put together the puzzle looks pretty good but deciphering leaves and shadows and concrete made for a tricky build. I had one corner that got a tiny bit smooshed, but it folded back over. I selected the 48 piece puzzle in hopes this puzzle will have more longevity as a project my kids will enjoy. Smaller numbers of pieces are available for a puzzle that is more kid friendly.

So there are plenty of options to make your experience even better than mine with this product. Use a high resolution photo and choose the correct number of pieces for the puzzle ability of your children. The quality materials and the attention to packaging make this a great gift!

The Geek Girl Boston South Tech Conference (@GeekGirlTechCon) is coming up in March and we want YOU to be there! I attended as a volunteer last year and now I am an official Geek Girl. Even as a volunteer I had time to take in workshops on Google Apps, Quickbooks, get some guidance on wrangling social media with Hootsuite, refresh some of my html and css (internet coding) skills, get the low down on some Verizon toys, gain some insight into Google+ and more! All the while other workshops were whirring around – over 80 in one day, in one location, with a wide variety of expert instructors. All that while traipsing around in the rain between multiple buildings! This year all this and more is contained in one convenient building, with one large parking lot, so once you're in – you are dry and warm for the rest of the event! This year we will be at Plymouth North High School in Plymouth, MA, right off exit 5 off Route 3. Just a hop, skip and a jump to a full day of presentations and instruction on nearly everything computer related!

If what I have mentioned doesn't cover your interests, experts fly in from around the country on topics such as Adobe: Photoshop, InDesign, Elements, WordPress, Microsoft and Apple Mac software, Entrepreneurial Workshops, Social Media and Mobile Devices. Here is last year's workshop schedule. And if all that is not enough there is a fully staffed help desk for one-on-one attention on any of these topics among vendors who have geek-ish wares to offer.

So whether you need tech support or normally are tech support this conference has something for everyone from the aspiring to the professional level geek. Come check it out on Saturday March 22nd at Plymouth North High School.

Wendy Weston is a computer geek from way back when modems ran at 14.4 kbps and installing a browser took all day. A band geek throughout college while earning her degree in MSI (computer applications in business). She is a tech generalist who does a little of everything from hardware configurations, networking, web coding and social media wrangling - often times all these in any given day. Wendy is now part of the South Shore, Cape and Islands Geek Girl squad helping make all the magic happen and lives in Bourne with her family.

A friend, a horsefly and a slippery board...

I was so excited to try Stand Up Paddle boarding. I had my life jacket packed and I was ready to go. We listened eagerly to the ~to do~ and ~don't do's~ including "not-to-face-plant" on the front of the board. Noted!

And we were off! Kneeling I was cruising; forward, turning, stopping - what!?! Now I'm supposed to actually Stand Up!?! My knees and legs were rockin' and rolling and shaking like mad but then a friend cruised by and splashed me. "Oh I'll get you!" I thought as I lowered my paddle down to swat some water in her direction and sent myself sailing top-lip first into the front edge of my board - Yeouch! Not recommended.

So begins the process of getting back on the board in the middle of the water. Rescued not once (failed attempt at splashing a friend), not twice (blasted horsefly!) but three times (had swapped boards with our guide to see if it would help - which it did once I figured out how slippery the new board was).

After I finally got my bearings - paddling kneeling again for a bit - I gave it another whirl standing and made it back successfully. I learned to "feel" my balance rather than "seeing" that I was standing evenly and learning how to gingerly stretch my maxed out toes to keep from totally cramping up. So expect to learn something about your fitness, your balance, your adaptability and your resilience. Happy paddling!
